During the week of Feb. 26-March 4, Hawaii Island police arrested 13 motorists for DUI.

Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident.

The numbers of arrests by district were:

• Kona, six.

• South Hilo, four.

• Puna, Ka‘u and South Kohala, one each.

So far this year, there have been 183 DUI arrests compared with 217 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15.7 percent.

There have been 203 major accidents so far this year compared to 236 during the same period last year, representing a decrease of 14 percent.

There have been five traffic fatalities so far this year compared with four during the same time period last year, an increase of 25 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
